Film & Video Production

The sector at a glance

Production is the craft-and-services industry that turns a script, a song, a brand brief or a live show into a finished, deliverable piece of media — feature and episodic film, commercials and branded content, music recording, broadcast and live-event capture, and the post-production chain of editorial, sound, color and VFX that finishes all of it. The market is layered: content studios and agencies commission, production companies and line producers assemble crews and logistics, rental and stage houses supply the gear and space, and post and audio facilities finish and deliver. Buyers are rarely 'production people' — they are brand and content marketing leads, agency producers, studio and network executives, artists and managers, festival and venue programmers, and corporate communications teams, all buying against a fixed budget, a locked air date and a delivery spec, not against gear lists. Austin is the anchor market: SXSW, Austin City Limits, Austin Film Society's Austin Studios, a deep freelance crew base and the Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program make Central Texas a production hub with costs well under the coasts.
